Introducing Snail Books — A New All-Canadian Publisher

In these challenging political and economic times, it’s good to know that Snail Books is proudly and entirely Canadian. Founded by John Miedema in May 2025 and based in Alcove, Quebec, Snail Books is dedicated to publishing thoughtful works that move at a human pace.

The publisher registered an ISBN Canada account with Library and Archives Canada in September 2025, followed by its first ISBN and legal deposit the next month. With that, Snail Books officially entered the literary landscape.

You won’t find Snail Books on Amazon. Instead, its e-books are designed to be open and accessible on nearly every device — phone, laptop, desktop, and e-readers like Kindle, Kobo, and Apple Books. Each download includes three file formats — PDF, EPUB, and MOBI — so readers can choose how and where they want to read. (For instance, you can easily send an EPUB to your Kindle by USB or email.)
